Description:

King Philip’s War was the first major conflict between the Natives and the colonists. Quarrels escalated to a full-blown war when English colonists began encroaching upon native lands. In addition to taking over the Natives’ land, they tried to force English law on them. Town in four colonies were attacked by the Natives including Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The message of King Philip through the war was that the Natives would continue to resist English settlement was heard from beyond just New England. Colonists wanted to retaliate because of what the natives did despite protests from the governor of Virginia.
