mar 6, 1857 - Dred Scott Case
Description:
The Dred Scott case was one of the most controversial events that came before the Civil War. Dred Scott was a slave who lived with his master in a free state before returning to the slave state that he originated from. He argued that because he lived in a free state, he should be considered free. While his argument was logical, the court ruled that because slaves were “property”, one could not file for emancipation, and so he remained a slave.
