feb 5, 68 BC - Morianton Rebellion

Description:

Morianton was the leader of the people of the Land of Morianton. This land bordered the Land of Lehi, and the Morianton led his people in trying to claim a portion of their neighbor's land.
The people of Lehi, of course, objected and a contention arose between the two groups.
This contention escalated until Morianton and his people took up arms and marched to attack Lehi.
The people of Lehi, not wanting to die, fled to Moroni and asked for protection. When Morianton realized that he would have to contend with Moroni and the Nephite army, he made preparations to lead his people into the Land Northward.
However, Morianton was a man of great passion, and when his maid servant angered him he beat her cruelly. She fled from him and went and told Moroni of his plans.
Moroni, knowing the danger that having an enemy to the North as well as the Lamanites to the south, resolved to stop their flight. He sent Teancum, one of his top officers, with an army to head off the people of Morianton.
In the ensuing battle many were killed, including Morianton himself. Teancum brought the rest of the people of Morianton back and the people of Lehi returned to their lands in peace.

All this would have taken place over the course of several months, but was over before the end of the year.
