apr 15, 73 BC - Amalikiah's Intrigue
Description:
After fleeing from Moroni Amalikaih and the few followers he had left, went and joined the Lamanites. Among his followers was his brother, Ammoron.
The king of the Lamanites welcomed them and gave them honor in his house. Amalikiah, using his cunning and flattery, soon convinced the Lamanites king to attack the Nephites.
When the King of the Lamanites summoned his army to attack the Nephites, a large portion of the people were scared. They were scared to go against the Nephites again, but they were also scared of disobeying their king.
So, under the leadership of a man named Lehonti, all those who did not want to go to war gathered together on Mount Antipas, with the firm resolve that they would not be compelled to go to war with the Lamanites.
Amalikiah was given command of the Lamanites that had come to the King's summons, and was ordered to bring the rest back. Instead he made an agreement with Lehonti to surrender the army to him, if Lehonti would make Amalikaih his second in command.
Once this was done, Amalikiah had Lehonti poisoned slowly, over the course of several days, maybe weeks. When Lehonti died Amalikiah, as second in command, was made the new Captain of the armies.
Once he had command of the armies he led them back to the King. When the king came out to meet them one of Amalikiah's servants killed him and they framed the King's servants. the servants fled and eventually joined the Nephites.
Amalikiah went to the Lamanite queen and told her about her husbands death. Soon after he married her and established himself as King of Lamanites.
All this took place in the year 73, with Amalikiah being made king sometime in late summer.
