After Alma was translated, Helaman had set about to reform the church again, as it had been neglected during the recent conflicts with the Lamanites. Many were brought back to the faith, but many would not listen.
Those who would not listen were led by a man named Amalikiah. Amalikiah was a large and strong man, but was also cunning and of many flattering words. through this flattery he persuaded many to follow him. His desire as to be made King, and his followers were largely lesser judges, or those of lower political influence, who wanted greater power.
Amalikiah soon collected a sizable following and began to set plans to conquor the Nephites.
