This WW1 epic was praised for its realism and effects. It became the first film to win the Best Picture Oscar. This film is an example of the standards for films in the 1920s. Contrary to what some may think, films in the 1920's were more taboo, with nudity, homosexuality and violence. This trend came to a halt after the 1920s were the Hays Code was created, censoring films and banning certain things they considered immoral.
