jan 1, 1854 - Kansas-Nebraska Act

Description:

Act that created two new territories: Kansas and Nebraska. It also left the status of slavery open to be decided by popular sovereignty. This act did not solve the issue of slavery at all because it just left the issue open to the states. This would ultimately culminate in Bloody Kansas. This act showed that the federal government was becoming less competent with solving the issue of slavery, which would result in the Civil War.
