Description:

A term coined by John L. Sullivan that described the westward mindset of Americans. The mindset was that America was destined to move westward and to kick the Mexicans off their land. This mindset caused many Americans to move westward, and eventually culminated in the Mexican-American war. This idea best shows Americans’ mindset of expansionism and imperialism, seen earlier in the Louisiana Purchase.
