jan 1, 1619 - First Slaves Arrive in North America
Description:
The first African slaves arrived in North America in the year 1619. They were brought to North America to help grow the main crop that was produced in Jamestown and Virginia, tobacco. This also marked the beginning of the Triangle Trade between West Africa, North America, and Europe. This trade would not have happened without the founding of Jamestown and their need for manual labor.
