Abraham Lincolns assassination happened at Ford’s Theater, just three days after the Confederacy surrendered and the war was effectively over. A Confederate sympathizer named John Wilkes Booth shot and killed Lincoln while he was watching a play. Booth went on the run for 11 days until he was found and killed by a Union soldier. The assassination dealt a major blow to unity because Lincoln was the most prominent figure fighting for harmony across the nation.
