jan 1, 1860 - Crittenden Compromise

Description:

This law was proposed in a last-ditch attempt to prevent the South from leaving. The law gave money to Southerners if their slaves ran away, required the North to repeal the Personal Liberty Laws, proposed a Constitutional Amendment preventing the federal government from interfering in slavery in the South, and proposed another Constitutional Amendment restoring the Missouri Compromise and protecting slavery below the 36° 30' line.
