jun 19, 1555 - Peace of Augsburg
Description:
Protestantism was spreading rapidly throughout the Holy Roman Empire, so Charles V told his bro Ferdinand I to oversee a Diet. The proceedings decided that each prince should be given the power to choose either Lutheranism or Catholicism. Whichever their choice, that was what the citizens had to practice. This was always accepted as a temporary solution, since Charles thought that the two sects would eventually reconvene, and since no one was completely happy with it. However, it allowed for a temporary peace within the kingdom.
