jun 19, 1358 - Jacquerie Uprising
Description:
This was a peasant revolt in Northern France. It occurred in the midst of the Hundred Years' War, where the English had destroyed lots of countryside. Also, the nobles had been demanding higher taxes from them in order to pay for the war. This deeply angered the peasants, and so they began taking over castles and slaughtering nobles. The uprising spread across the country through towns and villages, but the rioters were quickly massacred by the French authorities.
