apr 17, 82 BC - Anti-Nephi-Lehies

Description:

After eight years of the sons of Mosiah and their brethren preaching the gospel the people of seven lands were converted. These converts were still led by the King, but they had the desire to take a name that would distinguish them from the Lamanites. After some deliberation they agreed on the name "Anti-Nephi-Lehi," to signify their descent from Lehi, but as being separate from the Nephites.
The King felt so strongly about this new name that he changed his son's name to Anti-Nephi-Lehi. This son was Lamoni's brother, but nothing else is known of him.
As part of changing their name they also made a covenant to never again spill the blood of any man. To signify and seal this covenant they buried all their weapons deep in the earth. So deep was their conversion that none of them ever broke this covenant.

It is worth noting here that the Nephite dissenters (Amulonites and Amalekites) were not converted, except one who is not identified.
These Nephite dissenters joined with the unconverted Lamanites and started a rebellion against the king.
Seeing this the King conferred the kingdom on Anti-Nephi-Lehi and died shortly afterwards.

Finally, after the conversion of these Lamanites we are told that the curse of God no longer followed them. The curse was darker skin, and what this means is that each generation after them would have been born with lighter skin. If they married with the Nephites the curse would fade even faster. However, it was not removed from those who were converted.
