may 5, 96 BC - Conversion of Alma

Description:

Alma the Younger spend over a decade actively trying to destroy the church. He and his followers (including the sons of Mosiah) persecuted the saints, leading Mosiah II to issue an edict forbidding this behavior.

His father spent these years in earnest prayer for Alma's soul. Finally, in answer to his father's prays, an angel appeared to Alma the Younger and the sons of Mosiah and warned them that God would destroy them if they did not repent.
Alma was shocked into a three day coma while he wrestled in spirit with his sins and finally sought repentance and forgiveness.

You may note that on this timeline Alma is 40 years old when the angel appears to him. This is verified when we look at the date of his death, as well as the death of his son and grandson.
As he was translated in the year 73, this vision would be about 23 years earlier.
Thus, if he was much younger than 40 he would have been too young to have had three grown sons at the time of his Translation.

The sons of Mosiah were also converted by this experience, but they did not suffer as Alma, nor were they in a coma. The four sons of Mosiah, and their estimated age at the time, were:
1. Ammon - 39
2. Aaron - 37
3. Omner - 33
4. Himni - 32
