Description:
In 1803, Thomas Jefferson was serving as the third president of the United States and he made the radical decision to purchase an exorbitant amount of land West if the Mississippi River from the French government. He bought this land for 15 million dollars without congressional consent. He nearly doubled the size of the United States with this newly acquired land and changed how America could expand for the next hundred years.
