may 10, 1773 - Tea Act of 1773

Description:

The Tea Act, which was passed by Parliament on May 10, 1773, was created to give the East India Company a monopoly on the sale of tea in North America. One of the provisions of the act did not allow local tea merchants to sell tea. The colonists response was to protest against the act and not purchase tea or pay the tax for it. This caused a deadlock in Boston Harbor where the boats wouldn't leave until the colonists paid the tax.
