Description:

Columbus sailed the ocean in search of a new and shorter route to India. After a long voyage, Columbus and his ship had landed on what was thought to be India but was actually North America. Upon arrival, he called the locals, who would later be known as "Native Americans", as "Indians". The trip was intended to bring back various "gold and spices in quantity" (according to Columbus's records).

Gold = symbol of wealth and status.
Spices = rarity highly sought after on banquet tables of the society's elite class.
