dec 7, 1941 - Bombing of Pearl Harbor
Description:
Imperialist Japan was invading islands in the Pacific, but felt that the U.S. was limiting their capacity to expand into further territories. The Japanese decided that if they attacked the U.S. fleet in the Pacific, then they could finish their desired conquests before the U.S. could rebuild. Japanese bombers attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1921 where they sank or damaged eight U.S. battleships and killed 2,403 American soldiers. The next day, President Roosevelt declared war on Japan, and on December 11th, Hitler declared war on the U.S., causing the U.S. to officially join World War II. The economic influx created by the need for equipment and supplies to aid American troops during World War II helped rescue America's economy from the Great Depression.
