oct 24, 1893 - Herman Falk launches
Falk Manufacturing Company
Description:
In 1856 Franz Falk, a Bavarian immigrant, opened a brewery on the south side of the Menomonee Valley near Thirtieth Street. It became the fourth largest in Milwaukee, but founder's sons, disheartened after a pair of disastrous fires, sold out to Pabst in 1892. One of the younger Falks, Herman, soon opened a general purpose machine shop in the ruins of the old brewery. It evolved into one of the leading foundries in the region and then the largest manufacturers of precision industrial gears in the country. More than a century later, Falk is still based in the Valley.
