apr 12, 1861 - Battle of Fort Sumter

Description:

The tension and divide between the north and south finally reached its boiling point and the south succeeded from the union. The war didn't officially kick off until the Battle of Fort Sumter on April 12 1861. The Battle of Fort Sumter occurred when Abraham Lincoln tried to resupply the union fort which was in the Confederacy. Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy, declared that if Lincoln would resupply the fort, he would consider it as an act of aggression. Davis also told the commander of the confederate army that if the fort did not surrender, then the army would attack the fort. When the union troops in Fort Sumter did not surrender, the confederate army began shelling the fort. On April 13, the union soldiers surrendered. This would start what would be known as the Civil War.
