may 29, 1790 - Ratification of the Constitution
Description:
Due to many problems with the Articles of Confederation including a financial collapse, Congress realized that there needed to be an improved constitution and government. This led to the Constitutional Convention where fifty-five delegates helped to formulate what would be known as the United States Constitution. There were many debates over issues including state representation and state population. In the end, they were able to create a document which discussed the powers of the three branches of government and rules which the government must follow at all times as well as granting protection to peoples individual freedoms and rights (the Bill of Rights). May 29, 1790 was the day that the last colony ratified the constitution.
