Description:

The Virginia Company of London assisted in the funding of another settlement. The Puritans (Pilgrims), who were seeking religious freedom after being persecuted by Catholics, left England and settled in Massachusetts on November 11, 1620. They were initially planning on settling in Virginia, but the oceans currents swept them to Plymouth, Massachusetts instead. Once they were settled, they were free to practice their religion and develop new traditions such as Thanksgiving.
