mar 25, 1634 - Founding of Maryland
Description:
The success of the Colony of Jamestown and Plymouth led the King of England to grant the region of Maryland to George Calvert (Lord Baltimore). Although his death prevented him from going, his son, Cecil, along with other settlers landed in Maryland on March 25, 1634. Cecil developed an economy based on the plantation model - a model which would be used in America for many years to come.
