dec 20, 507 BC - Cleistenes Establishes Democracy In The Athenian Government.

Description:

Cleistenes had risen to power as a tyrant based on a popular wish of the public. He was able to officially add democracy as Athens form of government to its constitution.
Democracy is a form of government that uses representatives to represent the majority of the people values. Usually Democracy is split into three separate branches. These branches, first used in Athens consisted of the Ekklesia (The legislative branch), which composes laws for the government, the Boule (The executive branch), which is branch of elected leading representatives, and the Dikasteria (The judicial branch) which enforces the law through a court of sorts. The purpose of Democracy is to keep the best balance of power possible.
Although this was revolutionary at the time, this was a limited democracy in which wealthy men usually only held citizenship or power.
