aug 20, 1795 - Vieau Establishes
Trading Post
Description:
Jacques Vieau began his career as a voyageur, paddling between Montreal and the upper Great Lakes. He eventually settled in Green Bay and worked his way in the ranks of management. In 1795 Vieau was engaged by the North West company to open new posts. Vieau built a cabin on top of the bluff in today's Mitchell Park, providing his family with a panoramic view of the Menomonee Valley. Vieau traded in Milwaukee from 1795 to the mid-1830s - a tenure of nearly forty years.
