dec 16, 1773 - Boston Tea Party
Description:
The Sons of Liberty (set up by Samuel Adams) disguised themselves as Native Americans, boarded British merchant ships transporting tea. With thousands of spectators at the Boston Harbor, they poured 10,000 lbs worth of British tea into the harbour. The British response was harsh; they dissolved the Boston general assembly, revoked their charter, and sent 3,000 more troops to Boston. Boston and Massachusetts were then under the direct control of the British.
