The Barbarossa brothers were Aruj Hizir, and Ishak. They were the most popular Barbary privateers, and Aruj was a galley slave until the peace treaty, where he was given a privateering license. They mostly operated on the coast of Tunis and Algiers as Algiers needed protecting from the Spanish. In a war against Spain Aruj loses his arm.
