jan 16, 1619 - First slaves arrive in Jamestown
The first slaves arrived in Jamestown in 1619. This event began an era of American history that shall not soon be forgotten. These slaves were introduced to the Colonies for the purpose of harvesting the crops such as tobacco. The slave trade boomed during this time period and became the foundation of the economy especially in the southern colonies where the main source of economic growth was large plantations.
