Along with the Second Great Awakening Transcendentalism also arose in certain areas of the nation. Transcendentalism was founded by Ralph Waldo Emerson. It was a response to puritan beliefs and rationalism. Transcendentalist also believed in one God and no trinity. Transcendentalism focused on introspection. It focused on self-realization and nature. Divinity pervades all nature and humanity. A community of transcendentalist formed called Brook Farm. Transcendentalist advocated the idea of a personal God.
