oct 16, 1777 - 16. Articles of Confederation
Common Sense helped shape the minds and was a major factor in the colonist fighting for independence. After the war the Articles of Confederation were drafted up. It was the first written constitution of the United States of America. The Articles of Confederation severely limited the power of the government and ultimately made it useless. For laws to be passed 9 out of the 13 states had to vote yes and for amendments there needed to be an unanimous decision.
