may 22, 1765 - 14. Stamp Act

Description:

The Stamp Act was an act passed by British Parliament in 1765. The act taxed all paper items in the British Colonies. After the Seven Years War, the British government decided to end the period of Salutary Neglect and impose their rule. This act was the first internal tax on the American colonies and was done in order to help pay the massive debt that the British had after the war. This angered the colonies because they were being taxed by government an ocean away.
