feb 28, 1699 - 9. The Great Awakening

Description:

The Great Awakening was a movement that occurred in America in the 1700s. It sprang up after the Enlightenment began to spread. The great Awakening occurred at a time when religion waned in both intensity and faith. People thought that religion lacked personal engagement and emotion. The Great Awakening focused on individual connections instead of an institutionalized religion. Religion meant different things to different people. The Great Awakening made religion free of the social class and helped unite America as a whole. Indentured Servants and aristocrats a like could celebrate their religion in their own way.
