may 16, 1926 - First Ararat Operation Begins

Description:

After the Sheikh Said Rebellion, tribes like Celali, Hasenan, Cibran and Haydaran took refuge in Mount Ararat. On 16 May 1926, Turkey's 9th Division, attached to the 28th Regiment, was pressed Poti. When the Kurdish tribes withdrew from the village of Kalecik in Bayezit Monsoon, they pursued the Kurdish insurgents by following them to the 28th Alay Demirkapı area.

On 16 May, Kurdish forces fought against the 28th Infantry Regiment of the 9th Infantry Division of the Turkish army and a Gendarmie regiment in Demirkapı region. Turkish troops were defeated and the scattered 28th Regiment had to retreat towards Doğubeyazıt.

Kurdish tribes have been strengthened with the participation of Iranian Sakan and Kizilbas tribes in the uprising of Serdarbulak - Geyve. The 28th Regiment was defeated in the conflict.
