nov 8, 1817 - Era of Good Feelings, Monroe Doctrine 1816-1824 Key Concept 4.3,I

Description:

Electing James Monroe as the 5th president would establish his presidency as the Era of Good Feelings. The reason for this was the growing abolishment movement in the North which called for emancipation of the enslaved children and stated all states in the Louisiana territory to prohibit slavery except for Missouri. Monroe’s Doctrine was a warning to European nations that future colonization will not be tolerated and to prove that America should not be messed with. Monroe stated that the Americas’ should not be considered as future places to colonize and the entire western hemisphere will be under American influence only.
