apr 23, 1801 - Judiciary Act of 1801 Key Concept 4.1,I

Description:

As the last days of John Adams ended, he appointed 16 new judges after the Federalist Congress created 16 new judiciary positions with the Judiciary Act of 1801. This was an attempt to save the Federalist power but what would come after his departure would determine the power of the judiciary branch. William Marbury sued Secretary of State Madison because he denied Marbury’s appointment of the new judiciary position. The Supreme Court then established judiciary review to declare any federal law unconstitutional.
