dec 19, 1786 - Shays 's Rebellion Key Concept 3.3,I

Description:

Since the inception of the Articles of Confederation, the states had various economic policies and had the option to create different currencies from each other. These new policies were hard on many citizens and they were often in debt or on the edge of losing their land due to their failure to pay taxes. Massachusetts was no exception and because of her monetary, taxation, and foreclosure policies, her people felt angry and upset since she was hurting them rather than helping them grow and prosper. One of these said people was named Daniel Shays, a Revolutionary War veteran who would lead 1,200 regulators in an uprising against the Massachusetts government from 1786 to 1787. His demands were tax reductions and the issuance of paper money, but the Massachusetts looked towards Congress for help. When no help was to come, the Massachusetts militia crushed the rebellion and provide tax-relief statutes. It was because of this event amongst other things, that the Articles of Confederation were restructured.
