nov 29, 1820 - Missouri Compromise
Description:
After the newfound sense of pride brought on by the War of 1812, Americans continued to move west in search of more land and opportunity. Missouri applied for statehood as a slave state, which raised some tension because of the abolitionist movement that had started to become popular in the north. Missouri was admitted as a slave state, which threatened the sectional balance. Slavery was prohibited in future states north of the southern border of Missouri. Key Concept 4.3.11
