may 29, 1686 - Dominion of New England Key Concept 2.2,I

Description:

When James II saw how profitable the royal colonies were, he combined three colonies which included New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts into one massive colony. Then he demanded that the colonies should now follow the Navigation Act. Under this act, any American goods were to be shipped and sold to England only and also on England ships not American ships. This would prevent America from profiting and allow England to claim all of America’s hard work and labor. James II then appointed Sir Edmund Andros as head of Dominion of New England. Andros then proved himself a loyalist to King James II by replacing elected officials with appointed officials, adding taxes, and ending all land grants. Many hated Andros for stealing away most of their rights and waited for the opportune moment to take back control.
