dec 24, 1539 - Bartolome de las Casas Key Concept 1.2,III
Description:
Upon hearing of the atrocities committed by the Spanish Empire, Bartolome de las Casas called for better treatment of the Indians and his protests led to some form of better treatment for the Indians. Him being a Spanish friar who saw that the Indians were also a part of God’s family. His argument was that the Bible called for love and peace, but the Spanish Christians who owned and maintained the plantations on the American soil, were fighting against God’s guidance. Although not freeing the slaves from captivity, the Spanish plantations would set future examples for future colonies that would begin to grow all throughout the Americas’.
