The slave trade was brought to the Americas’ because conquistadors like Hernan Cortes and Francisco Pizarro discovered many plentiful resources in Mexico and South America that many European countries began to send sailors of their own to profit from the New World. These conquistadors signed contracts with Spain to send any collected wealth from the lands that they conquered in South and Central America. To manage and profit from the new resources, the Portuguese would trade with West Africa for slaves or POWs that would be used on sugar plantations.
