may 4, 1450 - Developing Nation States Key Concept 1.2, I

Description:

Under the pressure of the Ottoman Empire taking control of the Mediterranean Sea and the Silk Road, the European nation-states looked towards the New World to grow their influence and provide new sources of wealth to their economies. The new developing nation-states in Europe were beginning to wage war with one another over crops and vital land that would allow for their nations to prosper. The proper term of the nation-state is when a group of people of common culture and language band together under one government. The rise of the nation-states led to the decline of small kingdoms and vast empires. The definition of the nation-states is when a group of people of a common culture and language live under one government. The nation-states took to the seas in search of new unconquered land after the Ottoman Empire shut down the Silk Road connecting Europe to Asia. The Silk Road allowed European and Asian merchants to traverse to distant cities to promote and sell their products. Such products could often include POWs or slaves depending on where they came from and who was selling them.
