jan 5, 2006 - A Peak of Piracy
Description:
In 2006, there were 188 pirates attacks that included hostages, mostly for political aims, and half of these attacks were done by Somalian pirates. 77 of these involved kidnapping. The attacks of the Somalians are due to a lack of government presence, and it is difficult for other countries to interfere with this. Terrorism and piracy are now synonymous concepts, however, while terrorism is done for political or religious reasons, some piracy is genuinely just for profit. 200 years after the Barbary pirates, the coast of Africa thrives again.
