may 4, 1916 - The Sussex pledge was signed
Description:
On May 4, 1916, the Sussex pledge was signed by the Germans to the Americans. The pledge was a promise that the Germans made to the Americans to stop unrestricted submarine warfare. This pledge was made because of the sinking of the Sussex on March 24, 1916. This pledge was later broken by the Germans in February of 1917, which was one of the reasons that the U.S entered the war.
