Queen Elizabeth I was one of King Henry VIII:s daughters. She took over the throne in 1558 and ruled the country for nearly 50 years. Under Queen Elizabeth´s reign, England became a super power. It was the "Golden Age". England became unified and defeated the Spanish armada and was also the largest city in Europe.
Queen Elizabeth was a national symbol because of her strong and decisive leadership. She never got married, which gave her another name, the "Virgin Queen". Elizabeth loved fine clothing and jewelry. The Tudor family´s era died with Queen Elizabeth, she never had an heir to the throne.
The Elizabethan period is considered a great age in literary history, especially for drama.
