Description:
This short story satirises some aspects of social expectations and unfair arrangement of dowry-giving among the local Indian community in Malaysia. The groom Thiruchelvam and his family asks his bride to be, Sivasothie an expensive necklace as dowry. The bride’s family cannot afford this because the price they have to pay for the necklace is a piece of land so the wedding is called off (Faridah & Quayum, 2003).
