Typhus is also known as Typhus fever is a group of infectious diseases (that include epidemic, scrub, and murine typhus) which is caused by an infectious bacteria called Rickettsia Prowazekii.
There currently is no vaccine for this disease. It is spread to humans by bites from infected fleas, lice and chiggers. It is also stated the chiggers spread scrub typhus, fleas spread murine typhus and body lice spreads epidemic typhus according to the CDC.
Anne Frank was said to have died from Typhus fever in 1945 while being held in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp during World War II.
Historically, there have been multiple epidemics of Typhus such as the typhus epidemic of 1847 that killed around 20,000 people in Canada who were mainly Irish immigrants. 150,000 people died in Serbia during World War I and in 1922 the typhus epidemic was said to have 25-30 million cases in Russia.
Symptoms: The most common symptoms of Typhus fever include headaches, fever, and sometimes a rash as well.
