Description:
The predecessor to the vaccination was called Variolation. During the smallpox outbreak in 1796 Edward Jenner cut open smallpox sores and placed them into open wounds of people to prevent them from contracting Smallpox. While this process is unpleasant it brought the mortality rate of Smallpox down from 30% to 1-2%. Once a true vaccination was created it brought the mortality rate to >.001%
