Description:
The Battle of Dien Bien Phu was the last battle the French had taken part in before leaving and giving control of Vietnam to the Vietnamese. The battle was a failure from even before it had begun. The French gave up the high ground out of belief that the Viet Minh, a nationalist group, couldn't get weapons up the hill. Another mistake was the fact that the French planned to be cut off from supplies and reinforcements.
In the end, the Vietnamese secured their independence but it came with a cost...
