Who: This idea was presented by Aviva Cantor Zuckoff.
What: The idea that the elite ruling class passively conditioned Jews through assimilation efforts that they are "paranoid" if they recognize anti-semitism in the U.S. This was so subtle so Jews believed their oppression stemmed from their Jewish faith instead of antisemitism. Jews who left their faith behind were socio-economically rewarded.
(Aviva was 21 years after Will Herberg. She kinda wanted the elite to back off and stop making Jews believe it was their own religion that was making them feel oppressed.)
